Note
TN., KY. & NC LINK Herb can do a better job than I of explaining Henry & Eliza's link to the Ky / Tn. bunch. Henry is the son of Henry Shemwell and Susie Cox Shemwell. It is established that they did move to Randolph Co. Ar. in 1859 with their small family and younger brother Miles. They had moved from Graves Co. Ky. Henry (Cox ?) Shemwell (1828-1893) was born in Davidson County, North Carolina. At age 16, he moved with his family to Graves County, Kentucky. He married Eliza Jane Reed (1836- 1908) in 1854 in Marshall, Kentucky, USA. Henry and Eliza settled near Current River in Success, Clay County, Arkansas in 1859. During the Civil War, Henry served in local Confederate units from 1862-1865. He was a member of Colonel White’s Infantry Regiment, the 12th Missouri Infantry Regiment and the 15th Missouri Cavalry. He was paroled in Jacksonport, Arkansas, in June 1865. Henry became a Mason in 1865. Henry and Eliza are memorialized in the Pitman Cemetery, Randolph County, Arkansas. Max Shemwell
