The war ended at the Battle of San Jacinto (about 20 miles) east of modern day downtown Houston) where General Sam Houston led the Texas Army to victory in 18 minutes over a portion of the Mexican Army under Santa Anna, who was captured shortly after the battle. The conclusion of the war resulted in the creation of the Republic of Texas - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Revolution |

Burial | Biography found at Find A Grave Website: "Harriet Troutman married Francis P. Smith, Jan. 5, 1836, at Columbus, Bartholomew Co., Indiana. They removed to Kentucky for several years, returning to Columbus about 1854. They had (at least) five children: Simpson Webber Smith, James B. Smith, Benjamin M. Smith, Francis P. Smith, Jr., and Emma Smith McCreary.
Harriet and Francis Smith were apparently divorced, as he did not die until 1867. On Dec. 15, 1863, Harriet married second to Joseph Knowland, this union also in Bartholomew Co., Indiana; they had one son, Albert, born in Wapello Co., Iowa in 1865.
Harriet died at the age of 86 years 5 months 23 days at the home of her son, Gen. J.B. (Jimmie) Smith. Joseph Knowland died in San Bernardino Co., California, about 1901. |
