He passed away at his home in Hulbert on Sunday, April 29, 2007, after reaching the age of 81. Ernest grew up in a large family, with six brothers and one sister. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning eight battle stars before returning to civilian life. He returned to Oklahoma, and married Charlene Harvey in Tahlequah on June 16, 1954. Together he and Charlene raised four children. For 58 years, Ernest earned his living as a sheet metal worker. He was a proud member of Tulsa Local #270 since 1956, a Mason for 54 years, and a member of Cherokee Lodge #10 for approximately 48 years. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. When at home, he could often be found working in his shop. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; by five of his brothers, Loyd, Howard, Melvin, Clyde, and Virgil; by his sister, Jessie Pippen; and by his great-granddaughter, Hana. Ernest's memory will be kept alive by his survivors: his wife Charlene, of the home; by his children, Ernie Gene Lyons and wife Terresa of Peggs, JoAnn Neugin of Peggs, Donna George of Coweta, and Bobby Lyons and wife Tammy of Peggs; by one brother, Hugh Lyons of Los Molinos, CA; by eight grandchildren, Crystal Minks of Peggs, Jacob Neugin of North Carolina, Michael Walters of Arkansas, Phillip George of Coweta, Cory Lyons and Kerry Lyons of Peggs, Brandon Lyons and Joseph Lyons of Peggs; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Cody, Elizabeth, JT and Ayden; one very special friend, Larry Jones; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
