The Texas Revolution erupted in 1836, after Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Mexico responded by invading Texas, where General Santa Anna won decisive victories in the battles of the Alamo and Goliad. The war ended at the Battle of San Jacinto (about 20 miles) east of modern day downtown Houston) where General Sam Houston led the Texas Army to victory in 18 minutes over a portion of the Mexican Army under Santa Anna, who was captured shortly after the battle. "I Micajah McGehee of the County of Oglethorpe & State of Georgia, being weak in body, but in perfect mind & memory, taking into view the uncertainty of life & the certainty of death, do make constitute and appoint Thomas McGehee & Abner McGehee my true and lawful Executors to do & perform this my last will & Testament in manner and form following, (Viz) I give & recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God who gave it, & my body to be decently buried. Item, 1st. I do give & bequeath unto my affectionate wife Ann McGehee twenty five hundred dollars which is to be entirely at her disposal during her life; & at her death to be equally divided as the law directs; the balance of my Estate both real & personal to be sold and divided as above stated; after paying my debts & deducting the within amounts out of each debtors legacy.
