Asa-Inez-Barbara Troutman Obituary and Family Listing DECATUR HERALD 1/15/1931 A. C. BURTON TROUTMAN,21 WAS THE SON OF MR. AND MRS.ELMER TROUTMAN, 1535 E PRAIRIE STREET. HE DIED IN ST. MARYS HOSPITAL AT 8:40 OCLOCK THURSDAY MORNING. HE WAS BORN IN OXFORD, KAN, JULY 26, 1909. HE CAME TO DECATUR WITH HIS PARENTS IN 1911 AND HAD LIVED HERE SINCE THAT TIME. HE ATTENDED SCHOOL IN DECATUR IN BOTH DENNIS AND DURFEE SCHOOLS. HE ENLISED IN THE NAVY IN 1927 AND SERVED A FULL TWO YEARS ENLISTMENT PERIOD. HE WAS MARRIED TO IEZ LOWRY A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. HE LEAVES HIS PARENTS, TWO BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS, FRANCIS C. TROUTMAN AND CHARLES EDWARD TROUTMAN, DECATUR, MRS. FAY SCOTT, MRS. ELOISE BUTLER AND GLENDORA TROUTMAN, ALL OF DECATUR. THE BODY WAS TAKEN TO J. J. MORAN & SONS FUNERAL HOME. OBITUARY FURNISHED BY JANET DONNER DECATUR HERALD 1/16/1931 HUNDREDS FILED PAST THE THREE CASKETS IN WHICH THE FOUR EAST DECATUR STREET FIRE VICTIMS LAY FRIDAY MORNING IN THE J. J. MORAN & SONS CHAPEL. THERE WAS A. C. BURTON TROUTMANS BODY, SHROUDED IN THE AMERICAN FLAG IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICES IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. THERE WAS MRS. TROUTMAN AND BESIDE HER N THE CASKET, THE SIX MONTHS OLD BABY BARBARA JEAN, FOR WHOM SHE AND HER HUSBAND HAD GIVEN THEIR LIVES WHEN FIRE ENVELOPED THE ROOM IN WHICH THE BABY WAS SLEEPING. AND THE THIRD CASKET WAS THAT OF FRANCIS LOWRY, 16 YEARS OLD BROTHER OF THE MOTHER, WHO WAS FATALLY BURNED WHEN HE BECAME LOST IN THE BURNING HOUSE WHILE VISITING HIS SISTER. WINDOWS IN THE MORAN CHAPEL WERE REMOVED SO THAT THE OVERFLOW FROM THE CHAPEL MIGHT SIT IN THE CORRIDORS AND HEAR AND SEE THE SERVICES WHICH WERE CONDUCTED FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 2 OLCOCK. EVERY AVAILABLE SPACE WAS FILLED AS REV. STANLEY A MACDONELL AND REV. VERNE OGLESBY OPENED THE SERVICES. FOR THE FATHER THERE WERE MILITARY BEARERS, IN THE UNIFORM OF THEIR SERVICE AND AN HONORARY GROUP, COMPOSED OF THE SIX MEN WHO HAD BEEN PALS SINCE BOYHOOD. THEY HAD ALWAYS WORKED TOGETHER, PLAYED TOGETHER. FOR THE MOTHER, BABY AND BOY THERE WERE UNIFORMED POLICE IN HONOR OF W. ROSE ADAMS, POLICE PATROLMAN WHO WAS THE GRANDFATHER OF THE MOTHER. TWENTY UNIFORMED POLICE ATTENDED IN A BODY AND A FULL CORPS OF MOTORCYCLE POLICE ESCORTED THE FUNERAL PARTY. SONS IN THE SERVICES WERE SUNG BY A QUARTET COMPOSED OF MRS. C. C. NICHOLS, MRS. W. R. ESSICK, ELMER LYONS AND ELDON GEIGER. HONORARY BEARERS, FRIENDS OF THE FATHER WERE: MAC AND LEM RAY, JOHN MCMAHON, HOMER ETCHINSON, JESS HOLT AND ARNOLD CLINE.
