John Burton Gulick Obituary and Family Listing Decatur Herald 5/26/1928 John B.Gulick resident of RR 3 north of Decatur died in St. Marys hospital at 12:30 oclock Friday noon,after having been confined to the hospital three days with heart trouble. He had been ill for some time. John Gulick was born in Decatur township on July 2, 1874. He was the son of Mr.and Mrs. Asa Gulick.He was married on Oct. 4, 1898 in Hickory Point township. He leaves his wife and the following children: Mrs. Louise Roberts Orville Gulick, Burton, Robert and Jack Gulick all of Decatur. He has a brother, Oran Gulick and his mother, Mrs. Julia Gulick all of decatur. He was a member of Sharon church and of the Modern Woodmen of America in Bearsdale. Decatur Daily Review 5/25/1928 John B. Gulick,widely known in Macon county where for a number of years he was a grain buyer at Boody died in St. Marys hospital at 12:20 Friday noon. Mr.Gulick had been in poor health for some time and several years ago retired from business, moving to a farm four and a half miles northwest of Decatur. Mr.Gulick was born in Decatur township July 2, 1874. He and Miss Ada Sites were married in October 1898 in Hickory Point township. He was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge at Bearsdale and also of the Sharon church. He leaves his wife and the following children: Mrs. Louise Roberts, Orville Gulick,Buton Gulick,Robert Gulick and Jack Gulick, his aged mother, Mrs. Julia Gulick, 1140 N. Robert H Roberts Obituary and Family Listing Robert H. Roberts, 92, a lifelong resident of Decatur, passed away on April 22nd at Lincolnshire Place. He was born on December 29, 1928 to Mary Louise (Gulick)Roberts and Claude M Roberts. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1946, and Millikin University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Accounting & Finance. He married Helen L Printy on September 30, 1951; they celebrated 55 years of marriage, until her passing on October 4, 2006. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1955, and shortly thereafter worked as a Trust Officer at the Millikin Trust Company for 10 years. He then entered private practice as a prominent trust and estates lawyer for another 50 years. Bob was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur. He taught government and business law at Millikin University (1957-1958), and was a part-time instructor of commercial law and negotiable instruments at the American Institute of Banking (1958-1964). He served on various panels and committees of the Illinois Bar Association, the Illinois Bankers Association, Millikin University, and the Macon County Farm Bureau. He served the Boy Scouts on the executive board of the Lincoln Trails Council, and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Robert served as chairman of the Now and Tomorrow Council of Decatur Memorial Hospital and was a member of various other committees. He was a board member of the Macon County Historical Society, serving as President in 1982. He also served as Trustee for Lincoln College, Lincoln, IL for over 30 years, and served as Chairman from 1984-1987. Bob served from 1951-1953 in the Korean Conflict, as an Intelligence and Law Enforcement Officer for the US Coast Guard in Norfolk VA. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, boating, and carving birds. He was fascinated by beautiful sunsets and shell seeking. He was a 50 year plus member of Kiwanis, a member of the Country Club of Decatur, and Southside Country Club. Bob's greatest joy was family, and he spent his entire life creating venues for family fun. He adored his wife, Helen, and together they raised three children: Claudia (Mike) Bima of Peoria, IL, Kathy (Shelby) Matherly of Decatur, and Scott (Kim) Roberts of Ankeny, IA. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren, who lovingly called him "BobBob". Matt (Laura) Gibson of Elmhurst, IL (great-granddaughters Anna & Elsie); Christopher Gibson of Chicago; Sarah (Howie) Wickersham of Guthrie, OK (great -grandchildren Helen, Halle, Sam & Wes); Mason Roberts of Ankeny, IA; Allie Roberts of Chattanooga, TN; and Maggie Roberts of Birmingham, AL. He is additionally survived by three step-grandchildren: Kathie (Jeff) Phillips of Norwalk, IA (Lauren, Josh, Nathan & Andrew); Kami (Nestor) Gutierrez of Downs, IL (Josie & Sophia); and Nick Bima of Peoria, IL. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Peggy (Dave) Shulke, of Decatur, Cousins, and many nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud. A special thank you to Ruth Ellis, Dad's legal assistant and fellow crossword sidekick, the Primrose Retirement Community, and Lincolnshire Place, where we are grateful for excellent care by loving staffs.
