John Aleck Barnett Obituary and Family Listing Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel Thursday, March 2, 1950 John A. Barnett John A. BARNETT, Kewanna, retired rural mail carrier, died at 1 a.m. today at Woodlawn hospital. He was 75 years old. Born July 16, 1874, near Kewanna, he was the son of John A. and Nancy HARVEY BARNETT. In October, 1897, he was married to Nita B. GILLESPIE, who preceded him in death in August, 1945. He was a member of the Kewanna Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges and a branch of the Rochester I.O.O.F. Survivors include a son, Alec [BARNETT], South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Edith COSTELLO and Miss Enid BARNETT, both of Kewanna; two granddaughters; four sisters, Mrs. Charles TROUTMAN and Mrs. Oliver SMITH, Kewanna, and Mrs. Candace ZELLERS and Mrs. Bessie SCHIRM, South Bend. The body was taken to the Harrison Funeral Home, Kewanna, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Henry F. Catherine Nelson (nee Barnett) Obituary and Family Listing Catherine Nelson Mrs. Catherine NELSON, 66, a life long resident of Kewanna, died at her home at 8 o'clock this morning after being seriously ill for several weeks. She had been in poor health for 12 years. Mrs. Nelson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey BARNETT of Kewanna, was born Feb. 22, 1880. The body will be taken from the Harrison Funeral Home to the Nelson home where funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. R. G. STRONG, pastor of the Kewanna Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in the Barnett Cemetery south of Kewanna. She is survived by her husband, Woodson NELSON; a son, Philip [NELSON], and a daughter, Mrs. Lillian INGRAM of Kewanna; four sisters, Mrs. Josephine [TROUTMAN], and Mrs. Ruth SMITH of Kewanna, Mrs. Bessie [SCHIRM] of South Bend, and Mrs. Canda ZELLERS of Mishawaka; one brother, John BARNETT; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Oliver Smith Obituary and Family Listing Published in the Rochester(IN) News-Sentinel, Monday, October 21, 1957 Oliver SMITH, 78, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Woodlawn hospital after a lingering illness. A resident of Kewanna, Mr. Smith was born Jan. 28, 1879, in Union township and had lived in that community his entire life. He was married Nov. 29, 1902, in Kewanna, to Ruth BARNETT, who survives. His parents were Samuel and Josephine MOORE SMITH. Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and a member of the Kewanna Methodist church. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen ANDERSON, Kewanna; three grandchildren; one brother, Bert SMITH, Kewanna, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Harrison funeral home with the Rev. Frank R. CHRUST officiating. Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. cemetery. John Anderson Barnett Obituary and Family Listing From the Fulton Co Obituaries 1915 John A. BARNETT, 77, a widely known citizen of Union township and an ex-Fulton county auditor, died Wednesday evening at his home in Kewanna, following an illness caused by complications. Mr. Barnett has been active for 40 years in the political and civil life of Kewanna and Union township. In 1887 he was elected county auditor on the republican ticket, serving until 1891. In 1896 Mr. Barnett left the G.O.P. going to the populists, which during that year merged with the democrats. Previous to his election as county auditor, Mr. Barnett served six yearrs as township trustee. About 12 years ago he left the farm, moving to Kewanna. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of the Civil war, serving for nearly four years, retiring as a non-commissioned officer, and was a member of the G.A.R. Mr. Barnett was married twice, his first wife passing away when young, leaving one son, William BARNETT, who now lives in Washington. He then married Miss Nancy HARVEY who survives him. Six children by this marriage are living: John BARNETT, Kewanna; Mrs. Chas. TROUTMAN, Gary; Mrs. Woodson NELSON, Kewanna; Mrs. Olive SMITH, Kewanna; Mrs. William SCHIRM, Kewanna and Mrs. James ZELLARS of Kewanna. Mrs. Clyde HENDERSON of this city is a great-niece. Besides his children Mr. Barnett leaves a large number of grandchildren. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and at one time was very active in this order. As a member of the community Mr. Barnett was known for his decided convictions which made him a great many friends and also enemies. Funeral Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home in Kewanna. Zellers Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ireland Road Brethren church near South Bend for Mrs. Candace T. ZELLERS, 75, who died at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Osteopathic hospital in South Bend. Mrs. Zellers, who resided in Clay township of St. Joseph county, had been ill since August. The Rev. Gene WITZKY will officiate at rites and burial will be in Barnett cemetery at Kewanna. Friends may call until 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hollis funeral home at South Bend and at the church until the hour of service. Mrs. Zellers was born in Kewanna on Oct. 28, 1885, and in 1909 at Rochester was married to James ZELLERS, who died in 1945. She was a member of the Kewanna Baptist church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Margaret DUDECK and Miss Marjorie ZELLERS, both of South Bend; and Mrs. Georgia JOHNSON, Mishawaka; five sons, Murlen ZELLERS, Rochester; Arthur [ZELLERS], Kewanna; Ralph [ZELLERS], South Bend; Viron [ZELLERS], Crown Point, and Earl Fahler [ZELLERS], South Bend; thirty-two grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild [?] and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth SMITH, Kewanna; Mrs. Josephine TROUTMAN, Gary, and Mrs. Bess SCHIRM, South Bend.
