Obituary - Sentinel (Rochester, Indiana) - Tue, Feb. 2, 1937
John F. Wilson, aged 90 years, 8 months and 25 days, a pioneer citizen of
Union township passed away Monday afternoon [February 1, 1937] at 2:35 o'clock
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Henderson, of Kewanna. Death resulted
from complications following an illness of over two years' duration.
Mr. Wilson was one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens
of Fulton county and leaves a host of friends in Fulton, Cass and Pulaski
counties. For a long term of years he was an instructor in the Union township
schools and also was engaged in farming interests in that locality. He retired
from active business duties about ten years ago.
John F., son of Thomas and Agnes Wallace Wilson, was born in Union
township, Fulton county, Indiana on May 7th, 1846. He was a resident of that
community throughout his entire life.
On December 28th, 1871 he was united in marriage to Martha HORN. One son,
Charles H. WILSON, of Oak Park, Ill., was born to this union. Mrs. Wilson
preceded him in death 61 years ago. Mr. Wilson and Emma CARTER were united in
wedlock on December 20th, 1877.
The deceased was a member of the Kewanna Methodist church and the I.O.O.F.
lodge. He was a member of the fraternal organization for over 61 years.
It was learned that Mr. Wilson attempted to enlist in a volunteer infantry
during the early days of the Civil war but a fractured leg injury which also
tore away a large portion of the calf of his leg prevented his acceptance for
duty.
The survivors are the widow, and the following children: Mrs. Margaret
Harrington, of Mishawaka, Mrs. Jennie Henderson, Mrs. Nellie Wilson, Hugh
Wilson, all of Kewanna; Charles H. Wilson, of Oak Park, Ill.; Bert Wilson, of
Elwood, Ind.; Mrs. Anna D. Martin, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Miss Agnes Wilson,
of Washington, D.C. A son, Thomas Wilson, preceded in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon. Complete details of the
rites however, had not been completed as this issue of The News-Sentinel went to press.

John J. Carter, son of James and Catherine Carter, was born in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, on April 30th, 1834. When a small boy he moved with his parents to the pld Carter homestead (now part of the Thomas Neff farm, northeast of Kewanna). On the 1st day, of January, 1857, he was united in marriage to Sarah E. Barnett, of this union eight children were born viz.; Ern. Emmma R. Wilson residing east of Kewanna, Indiana, Mary E. Bowsher, of Monte Vista, Colorado, Mahala J. Calvin deceased, William A. Carter of Denver, Indiana, James E. Carter residing on the old homestead in Wayne Tp., Indiana, Sarah C. Carter deceased, Amanda I. Burket of Akron, Indiana, Essie G. Lamborn of Hammond, Indiana.
When the war clouds arose in the south, threatening the Union of the ha state, deceased enlisted in Co. E. 87th of Regt. Ind. Vol. Inft, was elected Sergeant of his Company. He was mustered out in June, 1865 and returned to his wife and three children, where he lived an upright life. Held civil office by the choice of his neighbors.
He never joined any church but was a firm believer in One Supreme, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Divine Being. He was of a jovial disposition, opposed to litigation, never sued any one in his life time; was true to his friends and charitable to his enemies.
He has been a great sufferer for more than 'a year a complication of diseases which culminated in death on Friday about 7:30 p. m., aged 80 years, 7 months and 28 days. "Behold, the silver-cord having been loosed, the golden bowl broken, our Comrade's body returns to Earth, the spirit to God who gave it."

Agnes W. WILSON, 87, of 5724 N. Keytone, Indianapolis died at Indianapolis Community Hospital at 9:20 p.m. Sunday. She was born Dec. 14, 1893 in Union Township of Fulton County to John F. and Emma R. CARTER WILSON. She was a retired statistician with the U. S. Agriculture Department in Washington, D.C. Surviving are a sister, Anna MARTIN, Winterhaven, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and three sisters preceded in death. Services were to be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home in Kewanna with the Rev. Gene PERSONETTE officiating. Burial was to be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Heart Fund.

Nellie M. WILSON, 94, formerly of Fulton County and living in Evansville since November 1979, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born April 10, 1886 in Union Township to John F. and Emma R. CARTER WILSON. She married Walter W. WILSON, Oct. 3, 1911 in Wisconsin; he died Sept. 25, 1964. She was a member of the Cason United Methodist Church, Delray, Fla. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Louise) MASTELLER, Rt. 1, Kewanna, and Mrs. Gene (Martha) LATHAN, Evansville; a son, Harold [WILSON], Indianapolis; two sisters, Anna MARTIN, Winterhaven, Fla., and Agnes WILSON, Indianapolis; seventeeh grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers, two sisters, a son and a daughter preceded in death. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Kewanna, with the Rev. Gene V. PERSONETT officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Kewanna. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.

William F. WILSON, 79, well known retired farmer, died at his home in Kewanna last night after an illness of several months. His condition had been critical for the past few weeks following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Wilson was born September 25th, 1854 in Union township and lived his entire life in that township. He was a member of the Kewanna M.E. Church for more than 43 years. His wife, Mrs. Nellie STREET preceded him in death three years ago. Survivors include three children, Myrtle A. WILSON, of Kewanna, Ernest D. WILSON, of Morrow, O., and Walter W. WILSON, Rochester, a sister, Mrs. O. E. COOK, and a brother, John WILSON, both of Kewanna. Funeral services are to be conducted from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. T. J. REDER in charge and burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The family asks that flowers be omitted.

Mrs. Jennie HENDERSON, 56, of Kewanna, died in the Kelsey hospital, Kewanna, Sunday night from brain concussion and internal injuries she received in an intersection collision Sunday evening about eight o'clock. Mrs. Henderson, riding in a 1938 Ford sedan driven by her son-in-law, Ralph HEWLETT, Toto, Ind., who was accompanied by his wife, and son, Ray [HEWLETT], suffered fatal injuries when the Hewlett auto collided with a car operated by Ronald KRIDER, R.R. 2, Culver. .........
Mrs. Jennie Belle HENDERSON, 56, was born in Kewanna on January 7, 1885, the daughter of John F. and Emma WILSON. In 1904, she was united in marriage to Clyde HENDERSON, who preceded her in death seven years ago. The deceased had resided in Rochester for about ten years, before moving back to Kewanna. She was a member of the Kewanna Methodist church and Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are: one son, Huron [HENDERSON], LaPorte; one daughter, Mrs. Geneva HEWLETT, Toto, Ind.; one grandson, Ray HEWLETT, Toto; four sisters, Mrs. Walter WILSON, Kewanna; Mrs. George HARRINGTON, Mishawaka; Mrs. Ray MARTIN, Winterhaven, Fla.; Mrs. Agnes WILSON, Raleigh, N.C; and three brother, Bert [WILSON], Elwood; Charles [WILSON], Chicago; and Hugh [WILSON], Kewanna. Funeral arrangements, as yet incomplete, will be announced in an early issue of The News-Sentinel.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie HENDERSON, who was killed in an auto crash near Burr Oak Sunday, will be held from the Kewanna Methodist church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock (DST), Rev. Marshall P. LUCAS officiating. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Kewanna.
