Marriage | Joseph and Milly McGehee - Children's ages
Their five children (Suckey, Jacob, Penny, Abraham, Tempy) were listed in the 1794 Will which had certain stipulations when Abraham reached 21 years old. I will assume that a child in the 1790s would therefore be consider a minor if he/she were under 21 years old.
In 1795, all five children were listed as being orphans with James Collins being assigned as their Guardian.
Based on these dates and legal documents, it appears that the children were born between 1773 and 1794 to still be consider minors in 1795.
Actual (and supported birth dates) will be added as they are found. |
Will | The Will appears to list two groupings of children. The first grouping are associated with his current wife, Milly; i.e., Suckey, Jacob, Penny, Abraham, and Tempy. There are five other children who are not referenced to any wife; however, based on other records, their mother was probably Mary Terrell Chiles. Those children are Micajah, Elizabeth, Chiles, Judith, and Joseph Jr.
Note that there are no other children listed in the Will. |
Probate | Part of Joseph McGehee Estate is being gifted to his wife Milly and their children; i.e., Suckey, Jacob, Penny, Abraham, and Tempy. |
Guardianship | James Collins is appointed Guardian of Susannah McGee, Jacob McGee, Penny McGee, Abraham McGee and Tempy McGee orphans and heirs of Joseph McGee, dec'd he having entered into Bond in the sum of 2 hundred and 50 pounds, with Joseph McGee, and (This item unfinished in original minutes.) |
