Obituary for George Milton Hatfield Jr.
Hatfield, George Milton, Jr., passed away January 31, 2015, in Winfield with his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy, by his side. George was born on the family farm near Oxford on October 17, 1922, to George M., Sr. and Lillie Hatfield, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him was sister Wanda Melichar and brothers Wayne, Les, and Larry Hatfield.
He attended grade school in Belle Plaine and graduated from Wichita East High School. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home, daughter Mary Walker of Northglenn, Colorado, and stepson Bob Hatfield of San Francisco, California; grandsons Mike (Kimberly) Walker of Goddard and Scott (Jennifer) Walker of Wichita; stepchildren Sandra (Raymond) Knoll, Gary (Carolyn) Reheis, Roger (Ernie) Reheis, Steve Reheis and preceded by Linda (Ron) Allen; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a proud WWII Navy veteran who served on the USS Bon Homme Richard aircraft carrier in the Pacific front. He retired from Beech Aircraft after 40+ years working in Research and Development to 45 acres east of Douglass, which he dearly loved, along with the stray animals that happened along. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, the KC Royals, Fox News, and family gatherings.
Viewing 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, at Douglass United Methodist Church, followed by burial with military honors at Douglass Cemetery. Lifelong Resident Of Area, 58, Dies On Coast Visit
Mrs. Lillie Hatfield, 58, of 4120 E. Clark, died Saturday in North Ridge, Calif., where she was visiting a son.
A lifelong resident of this area, she was born Feb. 25, 1899, in Belle Plaine.
Survivors include her husband, George, an employe at Wichita Municipal Airport; a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Zahourek, Sacramento, Calif.; four sons, Wayne L., North Ridge, George Jr., 2657 S. Mead, Leslie, 1718 S. Poplar, and Lawrence, of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Earl Drummond, 705 E. 57th South, and Mrs. Elizabeth Terhune, and Mrs. Della Davis, both of Spivey, Kan.; a brother, Sam Cox, 822 Coolidge; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday in Broadway Mortuary. The Rev. Leslie F. Toburen, Grace Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
