Phyllis Jean Huskey, 87, of Edwardsville, Illinois died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. She was born October 16, 1924 in Kewanna, Indiana, the daughter of the late Philip Anderson and Grace Blanche (Floyd) Nelson. She married Elwood E. Huskey on January 10, 1946 whom she met at the USO in Washington, DC. She retired from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville after 18 years of dedicated service in the Student Union Accounting Office. She had also worked at the Scott Air Force Base Thrift Shop. She and her husband had also owned and operated a grocery store in Beardsley, California where she had also worked at Family Drive-in & Diner and as a bookkeeper for a cab company. Phyllis proudly served her country with the United States Navy with the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II. Her world centered around her family and will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her beloved husband, survivors include her one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Lucinda Huskey of O'Fallon, Illinois; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Kay Huskey of Edwardsville and Carol Ann and Jim Combs of Edwardsville; six grandchildren and their spouses, Gregory and Kari Schipkowski of Granite City, Kimberly and Aaron Meade of Michigan, Matthew and Jodi Husky of Freeburg, Illinois, Andrew Huskey of O'Fallon, Illinois, Richard and Jenna Husky of O'Fallon, Illinois and Timothy and Corinthia Huskey of Edwardsville; fifteen great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, one brother, Robert Nelson, preceded her in death. Visitation: Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Charles West officiating. Burial with fully military rites will be accorded at Jefferson Barracks National cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
