William A Carter Obituary and Family Listing Published in The Rochester Sentinel Friday, August 3, 1945 William A. Carter Death came last night at 9:20 o'clock to William A. CARTER, 79, a real estate man in this community for the past 25 years, and a well known and highly respected citizen. The deceased, who was 79 last April 11, was born on a farm southwest of Kewanna in 1866, the son of John J. and Sarah (BARNETT) CARTER. On Dec. 2, 1890, at a ceremony performed at Logansport, he was united in marriage with Amelia Jane MOORE. He came to this city from Twelve Mile in 1920, and has since resided here at 418 Jefferson street. Death was due to complications from which he has suffered since early April, when he was confined in Woodlawn hospital. Surviving are the wife; one son, Estel [CARTER], of Rochester; one daughter, Mrs. Charles BROWN of the Lake Nyona community; one sister, Mrs. Essie LAMBORN of Hammond; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Final rites will be held from the Zimmerman Bros. chapel at two o'clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. B. G. THOMAS officiating. Burial will be made in IOOF cemetery. Amelia Jane Carter (nee Moore) Obituary and Family Listing Published in The Rochester Sentinel Wednesday, April 28, 1948 Amelia Jane Carter Mrs. Amelia Jane CARTER, 84, 418 Jefferson street, died at 6:15 a.m. today at the Jones Nursing home at Logansport where she had been a patient for the last three months. The deceased woman, who had been ill since 1941, died as a result of paralysis. Born March 6, 1864, near Metea, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of Thomas and Lydia SHILLING MOORE. She was married to William CARTER Dec. 2, 1890, in Logansport. He preceded her in death Aug.2, 1945. She came to Rochester in 1925 from Twelve Mile. Survivors include a son, Estil CARTER of Rochester; and a daughter, Mrs. Charles BROWN of Macy. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Benjamin G. THOMAS officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery. The body will remain in the funeral home where friends may call. Mary Genevieve Hartzler (nee Gilliland, Carter) Obituary and Family History Published in The Rochester Sentinel Tuesday, March 4, 1997 Mary G. Hartzier April 24, 1904-March 3, 1997 Mary G. HARTZLER, 92, 328 Ninth St.. Rochester, died at 7:50 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital. She was born in Rochester to Reuben and Edith UNGER GILLILAND, and lived here all of her life. She retired from Topps Manufacturing after 25 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a 55 year member of Rebekah Lodge. She was an avid gardener and specialized in growing roses which she shared with the community. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Richard (Mary Edith) McKEE, Rochester; two granddaugiters, Mrs. Jerry (Cheryl A.) BROWN, Rochester, Mrs. David (Jacqueline) DANHAUSER, Logansport; four great-granddaughters, Jennifer and Julie BROWN, Rochester. and Carmen and Kelsey DANHAUSER, Logansport. She was preceded in death by her parents, one slister Alice BAKER, and two brothers Geiger GILLILAND and William GILLILAND. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. C. David HOGSETT officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester. Carter May 1, 1907 – July 10. 2003 Susie Mae CARTER, 96, Life Care Center, formerly of 222 E. Sixth St., died at 2:35 p.m. Thursday at Life Care Center. Born in Sturgis, Ky., to Dan and Nina EASTERDAY GIBBONS, she married Estel S. "Duke" CARTER May 28, 1935, in Rochester. He died Nov. 15, 1969. Along with her husband, Mrs. Carter owned The Peoples Cafe in Rochester and managed the Rochester Schools cafeterias. They operated the restaurant at the Rochester Sale Barn for many years and managed the cafeteria at Geneva Center, Rochester. Mrs. Carter was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was in the ladies circle and was a Sunday School teacher. She belonged to the Rochester Order of the Eastern Star and Evergreen Rebekkah Lodge. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Jeannetta ALBERTZ, Santa Claus, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death with her husband were five sisters, Lucille CURTIS, Callie EVERETT, Virginia SCOTT, Hallie UNDERHILL and Dora Lee REEVES, and four brothers, William, John, Joseph and Charles STAATS. Funeral service and Eastern Star service are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. George HAPNER officiating. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
