Ralph Eugene "Gene" Nelson, 74, of Lake Charles, LA died at 3:57 AM on Monday, June 27, 2011 in a local hospital.
Born July 7, 1936 in Wichita, KS, Mr. Nelson graduated from McPherson High School and the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management. He served in the National Guard and was the owner / operator of a service station in McPherson, KS for a number of years. Mr. Nelson went on to serve twenty years in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Major. Following his retirement, he joined his father in the family business, an affiliate of Groendyke Transport, for thirty-two years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was active in his Sunday school class.
Mr. Nelson will always be remembered for his dedication to Christ the Lord as his Savior. He was also a loving father and grandfather and was very active with his family's activities, never missing a game or function. He supported many local children over the years by sponsoring their teams and adventures. Mr. Nelson was also an avid deer hunter. Many will also remember Diamond, his faithful German Shepherd, who was his constant companion.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his sons, Brad Nelson and wife Karen Bearb Nelson of Lake Charles and Tim Nelson and wife Lisa of Overland Park, KS; daughters, Susan Nelson of Lawrence, KS and Cassie Nelson of Sarasota, FL; brother, Jerry Nelson and wife Angie of McPherson, KS; and grandchildren, Kay Nelson, Grant Nelson, Aleks Nelson, and Sara Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jim Nelson; parents, John and Bea Nelson; and sister, Nancy Guoit.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Matt Cloud will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.

MCPHERSON - Jerry William Nelson, 81, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020 in Wichita. Jerry was born March 6, 1938, to Mary Beatrice "Bea" (Kelly) and John Walker Nelson. He married Angela Susan Cassise, Nov. 5, 1966. He was a U.S. Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force veteran, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
Survivors: his wife, Angela; daughters, Jera Thompson (Ty), and Shanna Hoch (Scott); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Ralph "Gene" Nelson; sister, Nancy Jo Guiot; and niece, Susan Lynn "Suzi" Nelson. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, with burial in McPherson Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.

W. Nelson, 84, formerly of rural
McPherson, Kan., died Friday,
May 26, 1995, at Memorial Hospi-
tal, McPherson.
Mr. Nelson was born July 2,
1910, at Urich, Mo., and was a
Lake Charies resident since 1970,
moving from McPherson. He was
a retired founder and owner of
J.W. Transport, McPherson and
Lake Charles. He was a member
of University Methodist Church,
Lake Charles, and a former mem-
ber of First United Methodist
Church, McPherson. He was also
a 50-year member and 32-degree
Mason at Guthrie, Okla.
His wife, Mary “Bea” Beatrice,
died in 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Jer-
ry of McPherson and Ralph Gene
of Lake Charles; a daughter, Nan-
cy Guiot of Chanute, Kan.; nine
grandchildren; and 11 great-
grandchildren.
A service will be at 2 p.m. today
at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home,
222 W. Euclid, McPherson 67460,
the Rev. Robert M. Fleenor offici-
ating. A second service will be at
10 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson
Chapei, Lake Charles. Burial will
be in Consolata Cemetery, Lake
Charles.
Memorials may be made to the
Cedars Health Care Center,
McPherson, or the McPherson
Shrine Children’s Fund.
Visitation will be from 5 to 10
p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral
