CEMETERY KEEPER DIES
AFTER SHORT SICKNESS
Edgar C. Downs Had Been Em-
ployed at Greenhill Since Sev-
eral Years Before Statehood
TO BURY HIM TOMORROW
Edgar C. Downs, 69) for more than
a score of yours sexton of Greenhall
Cemetery, died early last night at
the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs
Leo Valentine, 1149 Locust street,
following a long illness.
Mr. Downs was a well known
figure around Muskogee and until
his illness a few weeks ago had been
custodian of Greenhill cemetery since
several years before statehood. He
is survived by his widow, three sons:
W. E. Downs, Seattle, Wash.: G. B.
Downs, Tulsa; and C. L. Downs, Los
Angeles; and two daughters, Mrs.
Valentine, and Mrs. Vida Unger,
Roswell, N. M.
Funeral services will be held at 2
o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the
Central Baptist church, Rev. W. W.
Chancellor officiating. The body is
being held at the Petering-Furry
Undertaking home.
Pall-bearers wilt be E. C. Hoffman,
John Hill, W. H. Cunningham, J. T.
Elliot, G. A. McBride and Herman
Bresser.
Mr. Downs was a member of the
Baptist church and of the Modern
Woodmen. of America lodge.

Funerals
Mrs. Dora Downs, pioneer resident
of Muskogee, died Tuesday at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Val-
entine, at Oklahoma City. Mrs.
Downs was the widow of Edgar C.
Downs who was sexton of Greenhill!
cemetery for many years. She had
resided in Oklahoma Cityy for past
10 years. She is survived by her
daughter, grandson, Lieut. Carroll
Valentine of Albuquerque, N. Mex.:
granddaughters, Mrs. Jack Bullard
of Muskogee, Mrs. A. B. Gilliland of
Oklahoma City and Miss Elain Gilli-
land of Oklahoma City. Services will
be held Saturday at 1 o'clock at the
Petering funeral home. Rev. L. C.|
Wolfe of the Central Baptist church}
will officiate. Burial will be in Green-
hill cemetery.
