Malcolm Dyke Obituary and Family Listing DEATH NOTICE: The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa January 16, 2008 DYKE, Malcolm, 91, died January 5, 2008 at the Clearview Care Center in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Per his wishes, Malcolm was cremated. Family and friends gathered at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola January 9 for a time of remembrance. Obituary: The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa January 16, 2008 MALCOLM DYKE ... Malcolm Dyke, son of Roy Simon and Maggie Muriel [Timson] Dyke, was born June 21, 1916 in Kolin, Judith Basin, Montana. He passed from this life on January 5, 2008 at the Clearview Care Center in Mt. Ayr, Iowa at the age of 91 years. Malcolm grew up in Montana and Southwest Iowa. He moved to California in the mid 30's and later moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked for a landscaping company. He met Hattie Mae Barnwell, and they were united in marriage on April. 20, 1940 in Edgewater, Colorado. They returned to the family farm in 1941 when Malcolm's father became ill with cancer. They remained on the farm after his father passed away. In the early 1950s they sold the farm and purchased a tavern in Ellston, Iowa, "Dyke's Tavern". They ran the tavern until the 1960's when they sold it and purchased a fiberglass manufacturing plant near Mason City, Iowa. In the 1970s they moved to Georgia and built a home and raised cattle. After Hattie's death in 1987, Malcolm returned to Iowa and built a cabin on Sun Lake near Ellston. Needing more room for his equipment and machinery, Malcolm purchased a 90 acre farm near Grand River where he remained very active, keeping his many tractors and other equipment running. Malcolm met a special lady, Alma Selsor, and they went everywhere together. They were constant companions and very devoted to each other. Malcolm was always busy on the farm until January of 2007 when, because of a stroke he went to live at Clearview Care Center in Mt. Ayr. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Hattie; sisters, Mabel Lucille Aldridge, Fern Ruth Fleer, Estelle Jane Fitzsimons, and Betty Jean Marchant. He leaves to cherish his memory, special love, Alma Selsor of Thayer; nephew, Darryl Fleer and wife Sue of Colorado Springs, Colorado; niece, Jean Munger of Omaha, Nebraska; niece, Beth Ann Bruns of Spencer, Oklahoma; nephew, Bruce Marchant of Idaho; other relatives and many friends. Interment records at Forrest Cemetery indicates burial April 23, 2008 in section 6 where Hattie was laid to rest in 1987. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/194619246/malcolm-dyke
