Daniel Dale Winston Obituary and Family Listing Daniel Dale Winston, who came to the Sentinel in the early 1950s as a cub reporter, died Wednesday at his desk in Exeter where he was owner and publisher of S-H-E Publishing Co. Winston, 47, headed the firm which published the Exeter Sun, Woodlake Echo and Farmersville News-Herald. A native of Cheyenne County, Kan., Winston attended schools in St. Francis, Kan., graduating in 1945. He entered the Navy, attending the Stanford University NROTC program. In 1946 Winston attended Kansas University for one year and graduated from Stanford in 1949. In addition to a stint as sports editor for The Sentinel, he worked for the San Rafael Independent, the Lamar Daily News in Colorado as city editor, the Visalia Times-Delta as courthouse reporter and later at the city desk, the Tulare Advance-Register as city editor and the Fresno Bee Valley desk. Winston was in partnership with the Sequoia Publishing Co. in Lindsay for 1 1/2 years. In July of last year he became owner and publisher of S-H-E Publishing Co. He was a member of the Visalia Elks Lodge No. 1298, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Winston was married to the former Nancy Chalmers in Lamar, Colo., in 1953. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Douglas Harvey and Dana Dale, and a daughter, Danette Helen, all of Visalia; his mother, Ruby Winston; brothers, Joe and Harold Winston, and a sister, Wilma Hendricks, all of St. Francis, Kans.
