#2 Cover story from book: "This new comprehensive history of the Trautman/Troutman family begins with the birth of Michael Trautman, son of Sebastian and Catherina Trautman, about 1598 in the town of Schriesheim near Heidelberg, Germany. About one hundred and fifty years later, two of Sebastian's great-grandsons, Hieronimus and Johannes Trautman, left Schriesheim and came to America Their story fills this encyclopedic volume of nine hundred pages. Johannes Trautman first came to America in 1738; returned to Germany for his brother and married Eva Elisabetha Bauer on April 29, 1742; and on October 7, 1743, arrived in America. Palatine records refer to the brothers Hieronimus and Johannes Trautman as "farmers and vinedressers in poor circumstance, resolved to go to the new land in Pennsylvania." Hieronimus Trautman settled in the area of Schaefferstown, now Lebanon County, Pennsylvania; and Johannes Trautman settled in the area of the St. John's Host Church, now Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Many, many descendants live yet today in these two counties. " |
