The Will appears to list two groupings of children. The first grouping are associated with his current wife, Milly; i.e., Suckey, Jacob, Penny, Abraham, and Tempy. There are five other children who are not referenced to any wife; however, based on other records, their mother was probably Mary Terrell Chiles. Those children are Micajah, Elizabeth, Chiles, Judith, and Joseph Jr. Note that there are no other children listed in the Will.

During 1769 to 1809, North Carolina (Granville County) taxed various items.
