After his retirement, he worked as an advisor for employment issues at State Services for the Blind. His interest in children led him to serve for many years as a board member on Minnesota State Academy for the Blind Foundation. His four children remember him as a loving father who made each one feel special. He encouraged and supported them as they pursued their own dreams. He modeled care for each other and for others. Rollie was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Bessie, brother Robert and sister-in-law Jean. He is survived by wife Bebe, sons Michael and Douglas, daughters Elizabeth and Carol, grandchildren Jason and Lindsey, nephew Lee (Winnie), nieces Dianne Baldwin and Joan (Bud) Roe.
