Read what others had to say: Brian Shemwell - Mar 5, 2012 Edit | Delete | Viewers | Reply to this item Does anyone know the relation to Theo Shemwell? Gary Marsh had posted a write up that Dorris Shemwell had done when he was in college about a Shemwell in Ft. Donelson I think it may have been and that he was killed? "My half-sister Earlene told me that she was told as a little girl that there was a Shemwell who was a colonel and was shot while trying to swim the river at Dover in 1862. I looked through the National Cemetery records at Dover and could find no record of any Shemwell buried there. It could be that the body was not recovered, or he made the bank and survived to fight on. Earlene thinks that he is buried in Bumpus Mills. I haven't had a chance to check yet" -Written by Dorris Shemwell Herb Shemwell - Apr 14, 2012 Edit | Delete | Viewers | Reply to this item I have found no mention of this incident or this Shemwell in my research. There were three Shemwells at the Battle of Ft. Donelson (December '62) - Theo was the only Shemwell on the Union side. His brother, John Patrick also joined the Union army but spent the war in the war's rear areas and did not see any action. Theo and John's parents were James and Mary (Suit) Shemwell. Brian Shemwell - Apr 15, 2012 Edit | Delete | Viewers | Reply to this item Thanks Herb! I will add this information, I have a copy of what Gary Marsh posted, that I have had for quite some time. It was written by Dorris Shemwell son of John Douglas and Ellen Elizabeth Bryant Shemwell. I can send you a copy of it if you would like, do you still have my email? If so, just email me your home address and I can send you a copy of it.
